Technical Investment Manager

ABOUT THE ROLE

Data4 is looking for a Senior Associate to reinforce the technical function of its investment team.

The position will support the assessment and underwriting of new data centre development opportunities, primarily in Europe, ensuring that technical considerations are fully embedded into investment decision-making. The role sits at the intersection of infrastructure investment, engineering and development, contributing to risk mitigation, value creation and disciplined capital deployment.

Act as a technical and development contributor within transaction processes, combining engineering and financial thinking to translate project realities into clear commercial implications, risk positioning and structured inputs to investment decisions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Due Diligence

  • Coordinate technical, environmental and site diligence for new investment opportunities
  • Assess site constraints, permitting risks, design concept, buildability and delivery strategy
  • Review capex build-up assumptions, technical scopes and contractor strategies
  • Support evaluation of project schedules and identification of delivery and interface risks

Technical–Financial Integration

  • Build / calibrate operational models (capex, opex, risks) as inputs to valuation models
  • Translate technical findings into inputs for financial models led by the investment team
  • Provide capex, schedule and general risk scenarios to support underwriting cases

Commercial Translation of Technical Risk

  • Apply a developer mindset when challenging business assumptions, anticipating real delivery and construction constraints
  • Support preparation of investment papers and investor / lender technical narratives
  • Ensure technical considerations are reflected in negotiation strategy and deal structuring

Development & Delivery Insight

  • Assess the robustness and maturity of technical concepts from a developer perspective
  • Identify execution choices that impact scalability, resilience and long-term performance

REQUIREMENTS

Position can be based in Aldobendas, Spain or Cornaredo, Italy.

Education and experience

  • 5–8 years’ experience in the data center industry, or in complex infrastructure projects
  • Previous experience with a project developer, infrastructure investor, or technical advisor with hands-on investment exposure
  • Transaction or due diligence experience strongly preferred
  • Exposure to TMT / digital infrastructure highly valued

Technical skills

  • Solid understanding of data center technical systems and development lifecycle
  • Strong sense of project ownership and a solution-oriented mindset, with motivation to take increasing responsibility
  • Proven ability to build and calibrate operational models feeding into financial models
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced transaction environments
  • Pragmatic and delivery-oriented, with ability to move from analysis to actionable solutions
  • Comfortable operating in uncertain environments, with strong intellectual curiosity and structured problem-solving approach
  • Combines technical depth with financial and commercial mindset

Behavioral skills

  • High work ethic, curious and eager to grow in a platform investment role
  • Eager to take on responsibility early and grow into a technical investment leadership role
  • Comfortable operating across technical, commercial and financial disciplines
  • Willing to travel frequently across European markets and flexible on location
  • Fluent English required; French strongly valued; additional European language a plus
