Data4 joins the coalition for sustainable AI to drive environmental responsibility in artificial intelligence

The growing impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on society has sparked crucial discussions on ethics, security, and now—sustainability. In line with this evolving dialogue, Data4 is proud to announce its participation in the coalition for sustainable AI, a global initiative launched at the AI Action Summit, hosted by the Élysée Palace in Paris on February 10–11, 2024.

A global alliance for sustainable AI

With more than 90 partners, including leading companies, research institutes, associations, governments, and international organizations, the coalition for sustainable AI seeks to embed sustainability into AI’s core development. The initiative is spearheaded by France, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), bringing together stakeholders from across the AI value chain to promote responsible and environmentally conscious AI.

A landmark moment for AI and sustainability

The launch of this coalition marks a significant milestone—bringing AI and environmental sustainability to the forefront of global policy discussions. As part of the Forum for Sustainable AI, held at the French Ministry of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion, Minister Agnès Pannier-Runacher led a full day of exchanges focused on strengthening international cooperation to address the environmental challenges associated with AI.

Towards a global framework for sustainable AI

While AI security and ethics have been widely debated, sustainability is now emerging as a fundamental pillar of AI governance. The coalition for sustainable AI aims to establish a global framework that ensures AI development aligns with environmental priorities. Through collaboration, innovation, and shared best practices, stakeholders will work together to minimize AI’s carbon footprint and maximize its potential as a force for sustainability.

At Data4, we are committed to supporting responsible digital innovation. By joining this coalition, we reinforce our dedication to sustainable AI practices and contribute to shaping an AI ecosystem that respects both technological progress and planetary boundaries.
